The name Calabarzon is derived from the first syllables of Cavite (Ca), Laguna (la), and Batangas (ba), the first letter of Rizal (r), and the last syllable of Quezon (zon).

CALABARZON, officially designated as Region IV‑A, is an administrative region in the Philippines occupying the central section of Luzon. It covers 5 provinces, namely, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, and Rizal, as well as 1 highly urbanized city. The regional center is the City of Calamba.

Designated as Region IV-A, the term CALABARZON came from the acronym of the five provinces within its scope: Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. The region is formally referred to as Southern Tagalog Mainland.
