Alabama, the 22nd state admitted to the union in 1819, is located in the southeastern United States. It is bordered to the north by Tennessee, to the east by Georgia, and to the west by Mississippi.

The State of Alabama is located in the South-Eastern region of the United States. Alabama is bordered by the state of Georgia in the east; by Mississippi in the west; by Tennessee in the north; and by Florida and the Gulf of Mexico in the south.

Alabama is the thirty-first largest state in the United States with 52,419 square miles (135,760 km2) of total area. 3.18% of the area is water, making Alabama twenty-third in the amount of surface water, also giving it the second-largest inland waterway system in the United States.
