Alaska contains the four largest cities in the United States by area, including the state capital, Juneau. However, Alaska's most populous city is Anchorage, and approximately half the state's residents live within its metropolitan area.

Alaska is a constituent state of the United States of America. Admitted to the union as the 49th state on January 3, 1959, it lies at the extreme northwest of the North American continent.
