Hawaii is the southernmost U.S. state and the second farthest west, after Alaska. Like Alaska, Hawaii borders no other U.S. state. It is the only U.S. state not in North America, as it is in Oceania, and the only one completely surrounded by water and entirely an archipelago.

Hawaii, constituent state of the United States of America. It became the 50th U.S. state on August 21, 1959. Hawaii is a group of eight major volcanic islands and 124 islets in the central Pacific Ocean. Hawaii’s capital is Honolulu, located on the island of Oahu.
