Rubies were a mineral planned to be added in Java Edition 1.3.1 as a currency for trading with villagers, but were scrapped and replaced with emeralds. Rubies were obtained from mining ruby ore and from trading with villagers, in the same way as the emeralds that replaced them.

12w21a is the sixth snapshot for Java Edition 1.3.1, released on May 24, 2012, [1] which added emeralds, ender chests, and more stairs. Drops 1 emerald when mined. Generates in blobs of up to 10 blocks. Crafted with 8 obsidian and 1 eye of ender.

Ruby was originally intended as a currency for villagers before emerald was chosen. It only appeared in snapshot 12w21a and was quickly removed in subsequent versions.

Rubies were originally planned to be added as part of Minecraft Java Edition 1.3 as a currency for trading with villagers, but were abandoned at the last minute in favor of emeralds due to the developer "Dinnerbone" being red-green colorblind and therefore having a hard time spotting the difference between redstone ore and ruby ore.

In the development of villager trading for Java Edition 12w21a, rubies served as a temporary placeholder for the trading currency, appearing only in the snapshot's texture and language files.

Download the snapshot. 3. Place the snapshot in your .minecraft folder's bin folder. 4. Launch Minecraft like usual.
