Indian Constitution came into existence on 26th November 1949. The Constituent Assembly of India drafted the constitution considering features of constitutions of the other countries as well as from the Government of India Act 1935. There are various sources of Indian constitution for some features of it are borrowed.

In India, the Prime Minister is elected by the people of the country. But the President is elected by the Members of both Houses of Parliament, the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of States and the Union Territories of Delhi and Pondicherry.

Federal power sharing in India needs another tier of government, below that of the State governments. This is the rationale for decentralisation of power. Thus, resulted a third-tier of government, called local government. When power is taken away from Central and State governments and given to local government, it is called decentralisation.
