This document provides a strategy called "clock partners" for assigning students pre-determined partners in the classroom. With clock partners, each student has a printed clock face with different classmates' names assigned to each hour.

Clock partners is a valuable classroom engagement strategy that helps you create differentiated partnerships quickly and easily.

Clock Partners is a grouping strategy where learners complete this form one time and reuse it over multiple days to quickly partner to share ideas and/or answer questions when a particular time is called.

The pre-selected partners via the clock system eliminate hesitation or delay from children having to choose partners spontaneously. This strategy allows more efficient use of classroom time, whether quick discussions, projects or even seating arrangements during work cycles are in question.

With this clock partner strategy, students are asked to find a different classmate for each of the six time slots shown on the clock and write the name of their partner for that slot.

What to do: Students are organised in a way to have multiple learning partners throughout the lesson. One o'clock partner might represent those with similar abilities, while a 3 o'clock partner might be someone who has a similar learning style.

Clock Buddies is meant to be a quick and easy way to create pairs for partnered activities while avoiding the problem of kids always having the SAME partners. It begins with a clock face, with slots for names extending from each hour on the dial.

One strategy that my Upper Elementary co-teachers and I have used successfully for choosing partners in the classroom is called “clock partners.” The idea is simple – each child has a clock face printed on a piece of paper.

To save you time finding partners, set them up in advance. Using a clock face, students make “appointments” with different partners for different times on the clock.
