My 2017 GTI SE came with the factory lighting package (HID headlights) and performance package (limited slip diff + golf R brakes) + sunroof and leather seats, keyless entry and push to start

All 2019+ GTIs have the performance pack, as do all 2017-2018 SEs and Autobahns. The 2017 Sport as well. Otherwise, it was an option. Look for GTI logo on red calipers and red badges all around (except for 2018 when all badges were chrome). As for the headlights, the bi-xenons will have red accent lines with different designs depending on if it's a Mk7 or 7.5.

2015 gti 2 door performance pack -to- 2016 golf r. More power and more weight, no spinning wheels from a dig. The one thing I missed was the front differential on the gti PP. (standard nowadays I believe) The turn in was crazy on the gti The r seemed to have the tiniest bit of understeer on corner entry, but that’s it.

Nah not on the engine. I've had a MK7 GTI 140k miles, MK7 R at 102k miles, both stage 1 no issues with reliability. No engine CELs. With that said, the rest of the car will eventually feel the wear. You will wear out engine mounts, suspension, control arm bushings, etc quite a bit sooner.

These rotors were factory fitted on the mk7 Golf GTI Clubsport S, mk7.5 Golf GTI TCR and mk7.5 Golf R with Performance Pack, and are significantly lighter than the normal one ...

Mk 7.5 Golf GTi, worth the cost? : r/CarTalkUK - Reddit

The GTI is a sweet-spot, especially with a manual. DSG is great for the everyday but nowhere near as engaging. Folks saying "just get an R" genuinely only care about pub stats. Seek one with the Performance Pack (PP) if possible, not for the small power uplift but the brake and diff upgrade is worth it. What is the mileage?
