What made 9gag fun were the post and what made it great were the original comments (be it meme or just text). I just realized that one of the turning points was when someone posted something with a cute girl, the most upvoted comment was always the gif "throwing sausage at a girl" meme.

9gag policy was compared to North Korea a few times, which is probably too harsh, but . They have a really shitty system and are mostly stealing from other websites. Compared to reddit (sorry, redditors) they have almost no rule system and things like brigading aren't really restricted.

9gag steals from Reddit's front page and then the stolen content gets upvoted to the 9gag front page, on the exact same fucking day it was uploaded to Reddit. 9gag users, like 4chan and Reddit users, think they are superior to everyone else. This would be acceptable if 9gag had original content and didn't steal and watermark everything.

9gag is a sandbox for diverse groups to spread their own focused political propaganda. There are Ukrainian and Polish groups touching anti Russian propaganda - usually mocking Russian troops in Ukraine or gloating over their losses.

9gag is largely criticized by Redditors for being something of an inferior version of Reddit, and often gets flak for (1) the seemingly more immature userbase, and (2) stealing content from Reddit and reposting it with a 9gag watermark. The criticisms are sometimes true, sometimes not.

9gag users aren't photoshopping the watermark out, it's probably staff. Also, an important tidbit, words like "reddit" will make your comment not visible to other users, attempting to prevent you from calling out reposts.

Thank god other people see it, 9gag has become a shithole full of entitled, self-hating racists, misogynists, homophobes and transphobes. It's basically a cesspool of hateful white millenials.
