Realistically your best bet if you want a good racing game these days is just forza Need for Speed has been struggling for at least a decade now. Payback was fun but super linear and the mechanics and rng sucked.

Need for speed payback has a better story line! Overall heat has more cars and better graphics! Payback worth playing it only for the story!

However I only play the nfs games for the cop chases and either everyone is delusional or theyre all garbage at the game to think the Rivals cops are anywhere near as hard as the Heat cops. If only the heat cops were put in rivals I would probably rack up thousands of hours in the game.

Payback is completely dead on PC, waiting for an AllDrive lobby to fill up takes a few hours at minimum, let alone Casual SpeedList. Missed opportunity for EA to implement cross-play since Payback is still very active on PS4, no issues finding a full Ranked lobby at any time of the day. Heat is on sale right now and Im planning to buy it but I haven't played an NFS game with police since Most Wanted 2005.

Need for Speed: Payback is a fun, great open world with a story campaign that works well. Racing is exciting and all of the car modifications are interesting, besides lacking from its technical side.

Heat for sure. With Heat, you have very in-depth customization and upgrading while Hot Pursuit only allows you to choose paint colors. With Heat, the cars actually handle really well and you can decide whether you want a more drifty play style or grip. With Hot Pursuit, the cars handle very poorly. Try to take a curve without drifting and you’ll slam into a wall.
