While the HPV vaccine is well established for its prophylaxis against HPV-related cancers and AGWs, its effectiveness in preventing or treating cutaneous warts and treating existing AGWs is inconclusive.

Based on anecdotal evidence of treatment of warts with Gardasil (CSL Biotherapies, Melbourne, Australia), a recombinant quadrivalent HPV vaccine, the patient was prescribed the vaccine to be injected into his arm by his family practitioner in 3 doses at 0, 2, and 6 months.

While the HPV vaccine doesn’t directly target the HPV types that cause common warts, there’s evidence of cross-protection. This means that the antibodies produced in response to the vaccine may offer some degree of protection against related HPV types that cause common warts.

The HPV vaccine does not prevent common warts that appear on hands. This is because the specific HPV types causing hand warts differ from those targeted by the vaccine.

The vaccine does not target the HPV strains that commonly cause warts on the hands or feet, so it is not designed to address these specific types of warts.
