Den Ursprung der Krimmler Wasserfälle bildet die Krimmler Ache. Sie beginnt am Ende des Krimmler Achentales und durchfließt zuerst sanft ca. 20 km ebene Almböden, um danach als tosender Gletscherbach den Talausgang zu erreichen und die gewaltigen Stufen der Krimmler Wasserfälle hinab zu stürzen.

Infrastructure The Krimml Waterfall Trail is open continuously from May 1st to the end of October. The lowest waterfall is a 10-15 minute walk from the car parks. Access from the car parks to Kürsingerplatz at the lowest waterfall is disabled-friendly. There are also disabled toilet facilities along this path.

In 10 – 15 Gehminuten erreicht man vom Parkplatz den untersten Wasserfall. Von dort führt der in Serpentinen angelegte Wasserfallweg bis zum obersten Wasserfall (Gehzeit ca. 1,15 Std.) und weiter in das Krimmler Achental. This is attributed to the high concentration of negative air ions in the air surrounding the waterfall. They stimulate the immune system, lead to a lasting improvement in the respiratory tract, have a positive effect on lung function and reduce the frequency of attacks in allergy sufferers and asthmatics.

The Krimmler Ache forms the source of the Krimml Waterfalls. It begins at the end of the Krimmler Achental valley and first flows gently through approx. 20 km of flat alpine pastures before reaching the end of the valley as a roaring glacial stream and plunging down the mighty steps of the Krimml Waterfalls.

The waterfall trail The waterfall trail with its numerous viewing points and pulpits was built in 1900 and since then has brought nature enthusiasts up close to the Krimml waterfalls. the trail is well paved and is constantly maintained and serviced.
