NSW RSA Updates 2026: What Bar Owners Need to Know NSW's Responsible Service of Alcohol framework is tightening in 2026, with updated training requirements, stricter breach penalties, and new digital compliance expectations. Here's what you need to action now — before the changes bite. What's actually changing in NSW RSA in 2026?

If you're going to work at a licensed premises (a place that sells alcohol), you must complete training in the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA). If you don't have proof that you've completed the RSA training required for working in a licensed premises, you could be fined.

RSA is not required for kitchen staff who have no involvement in alcohol service. It is not required for people who work in venues where alcohol is consumed by others but who do not themselves sell, serve, or supply it.

If you work as security staff or an RSA marshal in a licensed premises in NSW, regardless of whether you live permanently in NSW or not, you are required to hold an NSW competency card displaying the RSA endorsement.

Since 1 December 2021, if you intend to make same day alcohol deliveries to retail customers in NSW as a service provider, an employee or their delivery agent, you must complete the mandatory Responsible Supply of Alcohol training (RSAT) and the Liquor & Gaming NSW knowledge test.
