I just read it today too! Finished 1984 yesterday, and Animal Farm today. The ending was completely crushing, I agree. The fact that the animals revolted, and then returned to the state of slavery over a few years is soul-destroying. Something I'd like to talk about is which characters the different pigs represent.

Some farmers came several times up with a request of me finding some farm animals that had gone missing. There is no special mention what exactly im looking for but I spend about 20min looking at every farmers house and still did not find anything. Animal Farm is a pure analogy of the bolshevik revolution and Stalin seizing power to create a new totalitarian state. Napoleon is Stalin, Snowball is Trotsky and the mensheviks.

Animal Farm makes valid critiques of different systems (capitalism, communism) but I'd hesitate to say that it's anti communist/socialist, only that there will always be people who will use systems to try and manipulate and trick those who are weaker. It's a good book at any rate. Historically speaking?

Animal Farm is an allegorical tale on the real nature of ideology which takes over people's lives. Ultimately - and Orwell wrote it as a leftist - it is about the lie behind socialism which promises equality but provides only oppression.

I think Animal Farm is a far more accurate view of dystopia than 1984. At least in what I see in the free world. I have shared and bought both books for numerous people and we mostly agree. 1984 is the extreme and can occur where democracy fails, hence the ussr, China, and the horrible dictatorships that we don’t readily discuss.

Finished "Animal farm", this book gives a very accurate picture of how revolutions often goes Well it all begins with a realization, then some people become the leaders and they decide to encourage the others to rise against the tyranny.
