Time-To-Live (TTL) defines how long data is considered valid in a network or system before it expires. It helps ensure that outdated information is automatically removed and refreshed when needed.

Once the prescribed event count or timespan has elapsed, data is discarded or revalidated. In computer networking, TTL prevents a data packet from circulating indefinitely. In computing applications, TTL is commonly used to improve the performance and manage the caching of data.

TTL devices were originally made in ceramic and plastic dual in-line package (s) and in flat-pack form. Some TTL chips are now also made in surface-mount technology packages. TTL became the foundation of computers and other digital electronics.
