This guy flew in and landed on a piling near me so what the heck. Might as well shoot a few. 1) It kept an eye on me for a couple of minutes. 2) Indulging my bird foot fetish 3) Backed away a bit. 4) Done eating and time for a good preen.

Over the holiday weekend I visited one of the top birding hotspots in the northeast while visiting family. I grew up very close to here but did not have any interest in birding or bird photography until after I moved out of state. I only had about 30-40 mins but I was able to photograph this Snowy Egret coming in for a landing.

Just thought this guy was a little unusual with the dark plumes. However, looking at another dozen or so in the area, they also had dark plumes to some extent. Hadn't ever noticed this before. Photos taken last week. Anyone got a good explanation? Thanks,

Great or Snowy Egret? - BirdForum

I thought Great Egret from Little (and so presumably Snowy?) in flight relatively straightforward in that in normal views Great's much longer legs and oversized feet stand out, deeper keel also. Appreciate this could be somewhat subjective/hard to ascertain depending on experience. Larger and heavier more ponderous wingbeats too.
